With recent breakthroughs in technology and the push to smaller living, portable boats are becoming more popular. I see and hear about a lot of the inflatable fishing kayaks and am always amazed at how bulky and cumbersome they still are. Most of them fit into large bags that need to be carried over your shoulder or have huge straps. The latest portable kayak craze that was brought to my attention was the Oru kayak and I laughed. It claims to be so portable but is massive compared to a packraft. Even when folded together the box is huge and would be impossible to bicycle or fly with and a pain to take on the bus or even walk a busy street. The Saturn Pro Angler is huge and needs to be hauled with a cart or on top of the car. Why not just get a hard sided kayak? Even with the Oru unfolded and the Saturn blown up, you are still left with a primarily open water, calm water, or ocean kayak that would not be suitable for navigating a white water rock garden. Look at this video of putting the boat together. I would not call this boat portable for my needs of airplane, bicycle, public, and wildness travel. Also a lot of these boats still need either electricity or a pump to get them blown up. I believe that the Alpacka packraft is a truly portable inflatable kayak fishing option that allows for access to more fishing.
